FAQs

What should I wear for my session?

You want to ensure you feel your best when you come in for your session. Your wardrobe should reflect your personal style, keeping in mind the impression you want to leave with the headshot. Solid, jewel tone colors will almost always compliment everyone's best features. Feel free to bring multiple options and we can discuss which one will work best for your session.

What backgrounds are available for my session?

I believe simple backgrounds are timeless. I stick to the basics and focus on a great expression and confidence in your images. White, Black, Gray and Beige are all available in studio. Colors are also available during a Full Studio Headshot Session, Portrait Session or Personal Branding Session.

Why do you only shoot horizontally?

With today’s media and the high resolution of cameras, shooting horizontally simply allows for more use options later. A horizontal crop allows one or both shoulders to be left in the image which can then be later cropped for a portrait or square orientation giving more options for the use of your headshot.

What formats will I receive from my purchased images?

Every image purchased is delivered as both a full version and a cropped version in both a horizontal and vertical orientation. You will also receive each of the versions as both a full resolution print file and a compressed web resolution file. We make sure you have what you need to get the most use from your images.

Why do you crop into the top of the head?

A headshot is much more effective if it conveys a feeling and has a certain style to it, and this can greatly be enhanced by the crop of the shot. It is much more important to see your body below the neckline than to see the tip of the hair, unless you have an intense hairstyle you need to show off. Shooting closer in makes the image more dynamic, but the only way to keep the body in the frame is to cut off a bit of the hair.

Should I invest in a hair and makeup artist?

The short answer is no - it is not needed. If you feel better investing in hair and makeup, then we encourage you to do so! We have stylists on hand to take care of you if you’d like to add it to your session. Regardless of your decision, it is best to keep your hair and makeup simple and classic.

Can I select my images from an online gallery?

Your images will be selected in-person, immediately following your session so an online gallery isn’t necessary and is not available. If you need help selecting images, you can bring up to 2 guests into the studio to help you decide.

What happens after my session?

After the session, I’ll get to work on editing the images you selected. You can expect your edited image(s) to be delivered electronically within three business days from your session. Be sure to download them and make a copy for safekeeping.

Can I see my images during the session?

Yes! We will be reviewing your images together as they are captured during your session. We will capture a variety of poses, lighting styles and backgrounds to see what suits you best and I will be coaching your throughout your session to be sure we get the best expressions. Once you’re out from behind the lens, we will review the images together and I’ll help you to decide which ones you’d like delivered.
